Assupol was formed in 1913 and was established as a burial society for members of the police, correctional services and other government employees. Assupol insurance still has a major share of the government sector, which currently stands at approximately 75% The company has also has an increasing customer base as more of the general public purchase their insurance policies.

They were the first insurance company to introduce the 48-hour-claim turn-around, which has now become the industry norm.
